Tuesday 17th May 2016: HRH The Duke of Cambridge accompanied by Mr Ralph Lauren open The Ralph Lauren Centre for Breast Cancer Research at the Royal Marsden in Chelsea.

The new centre is already making headway against the fight against breast cancer by pioneering the redevelopment of an existing pharmacological therapy. The aim of the centre is to identify molecular differences between tumours in order to ensure the optimal treatment of individual breast cancer patients. In turn, this will reduce recurrence and mortality from the disease as well as eliminate unnecessary toxicity from unnecessary treatments.

Ralph Lauren has been committed to the fight against breast cancer for more than 20 years. In the late 1980s, Mr Lauren was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour. Shortly after the removal of the tumour, he was moved to take action when his close friend Nina Hyde, Washington Post Fashion Editor, shared her breast cancer diagnosis with him. In 2014, Mr Lauren and The Duke of Cambridge announced the partnership between Ralph Lauren and the largest and most comprehensive cancer centre in Europe – The Royal Marsden. After more than twenty years of a commitment to The Royal Marsden through supporting his late friend and former President of the Charity, Princess Diana, Mr Lauren continues and extends his philanthropic pursuits through her son, HRH The Duke of Cambridge.
